Who can play?

This tournament is for people who identify as women, trans, Two-Spirit, non-binary, or gender-expansive.

If you do not identify with the above, we still encourage you to come watch and volunteer and be part of the weekend. Help us continue to create space for marginalized players who haven't had as much opportunity or access to hockey.

Is there an age limit?

Players need to be 19+

Historically, we have had a diverse age spectrum; including players 60+

Can I be on the same team as a friend?

Absolutely!
While this is a draft tournament and players sign up as individuals; there is opportunity to add your pals on your registration. We will do our very best to keep you together.

I’m new to hockey can I still play?

Yes!

This is a skill inclusive tournament meaning there will be folks with a wide range of playing experience. We hope to encourage playing to the player; meaning giving a little room to super green players. We have all been there. This is also an opportunity for our veterans to challenge themselves by creating scoring opportunities for the whole team.

How competitive is it?

This is a FUN weekend full of hockey and hangouts. Not your typical tournie as we don't have a trophy. In fact we don't have playoffs. We just spend the weekend playing against new friends with new friends and have a great time doing it. There are plenty of player awards and prizes.

How many games will I play?

All players will play 4 games total.

1 game Friday evening, 2 games Saturday and 1 game Sunday morning.

What events will there be?

Check back for more information.
Historically, TTHE has offered a inclusivity workshop, commemorative puck drop and territory acknowledgments, food trucks, a rink side barber, bake sales, drag performers doing live commentary of the games, raffle tables, mental health ambassadors, a sold out dance party, sponsored community skate, athletic therapist, live community painting mural, merch booth, gear drop and upstairs ‘penalty box’ bar. This Tournament really Has Everything.

YES PLEASE!

BRING ALL YOUR COOLEST KINDEST PEOPLE. WE LOVE SPECTATORS. Help us to build community. Lets make hockey better. We are always keen for volunteers!

Can I bring my children?

Sure!

They can most definitely come watch. Please note that all evening events and the 'Penalty Box Bar' upstairs is 19+ only.

Can I bring my dogs?

Unfortunately, unless they are service dogs, pups will have to stay at home as it is arena policy.

How can I help?

We LOVE volunteers and have a wide range of ways folks can participate.

We are also always looking for sponsors and raffle prize donations. A little goes a long way.

To apply to become a volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Form.

If you have any questions regarding volunteering, email us at tthehockeytournament@gmail.com to chat further!

Is the rink accessible?

Our beloved rink was built a long, long time ago (1971) and though the ice and viewing areas are on the ground floor through double doors; our bar is up a double flight of stairs. There is no elevator.  We apologize for this and recognize the impact it has on some of our participants.
If you are comfortable please reach out to us with any accessibility needs and we will do OUR VERY BEST to facilitate because we want you to feel very much part of this community. We see you.

Bathrooms and Changerooms

During TTHE weekend all our washrooms are gender inclusive.

Use what feels most safe. Team locker rooms are gender inclusive and have open showers and a single locking bathroom stall in each if desired.

Where can I park?

TONS of parking.

You can leave your car if you drink too much. * note that the gate will be locked from midnight to 7:00 am.

What can I eat?

There will be food trucks, a bake sale and pizza party throughout the weekend. Please DO NOT BRING PEANUTS into the arena. We have folks with severe allergies attending.

The upstairs ‘Penalty Box Bar' will be serving beers, ciders, non-alchs and various other bevvys upstairs at the rink throughout the weekend. The space also has a heated viewing area. 100% of profits are donated to the Sunshine Coast youth outreach program.

Is there financial support available?

With the support of  Métis Nation BC , we are able to offer a grant covering registration fees for any players who identify as Indigenous including but not limited to First Nations, Métis and Inuit as a continued effort to influence change and encourage diversity and inclusion in hockey by removing systemic and discriminatory barriers that have historically prevented access to the sport.

With the support of the Sunshine Coast Pride Society, we are able to offer 3 hardship grants in an effort to remove financial barriers in hockey. Hardship grans are financial resources designed to assist individuals who are experiencing financial distress due to unforeseen circumstances, such as job loss, medical emergences, or other challenges. Unlike loans, hardship grans do not require repayment. The grant is confidential and does not require proof of financial means.
